Collage to be Auctioned Off to Benefit Student Members

The collage, created by April Fletcher, measures 16” x 20”; and just under 24” x 28” matted (acid-free) and framed. It was made from oriental art papers and natural materials on an art-board backing. Natural materials include blue grama, side-oats grama, and fescue on the sides, branches and leaves of a  couple of “anonymous” native plants of the New Mexico mountains in the lower corners, and an “eruption” of cheatgrass (Bromus tectorum) in the center. Final touches include three butterflies cut from Japanese Washi paper and a small camouflaged “tree frog” (artistic license!). The collage was appropriately titled “Cheated”. The work was finished with a coating of a special glue that will keep all seed heads intact and should preserve the natural materials. It was sprayed with a UV coating for additional protection. (Note: the piece can be lifted out of the frame and the glass removed for easy carrying or shipping.)
 

AUCTION DETAILS: The auction will start here on the WSWS website and continue during the WSWS Annual Meeting to be held March 10-12 in Albuquerque, NM. You do not need to be present at the annual meeting to win the auction.  Bidding will stop at the close of business on March 11, 2009.  The highest bidder will be announced at the morning business breakfast on Thursday, March 12, 2009.  The high bid will be matched by the WSWS to help provide financial support for student members to attend the 2010 annual meeting in Hawaii.
